Can the Crimson Curse Be Cured?
The Crimson Curse is one of the most feared afflictions in Dark Souls, a notoriously challenging gaming franchise. This curse, which stems from the Crimson Court DLC pack, can have devastating consequences if left unchecked. But the question lingering in the minds of players is this: can the crimson curse be cured?
Dire Consequences
The red curse, as it’s also known, spreads rapidly within a player’s roster, infecting characters and causing them to succumb to its corrupting powers. This can lead to the loss of loved ones, as the cursed characters devolve into mindless, zombie-like creatures. The consequences are dire; players must take immediate action to contain the spread and cure the curse or risk losing their entire character roster.
How to Prevent the Spread
To prevent the spread of the cursed blood, players must deliberately put cured and infected characters together. This unlikely combination can halt the spread’s rate, allowing players to regain control.
Curing the Blood of Crimson
Killing Courtyard Bosses is vital to curing the curse. When killing a Courtyard Boss, the affected heroes are automatically removed of the curse.
Additional ways to cure the crimson curse come in the form of roaming bosses (dropping individual cures once encountered) and defeating the final Boss (allowing the Sanitarium to cure the affected characters later on).
What Does this Curse Do?
Bloody Education – What is Crimson Education?
Unrelated to the game, Crimson Education is a real-life organization dedicated to assisting students gain admission to top academic institutions worldwide.
Spread and Resistances
Crimson and Corruption – Almost all wood and clay blocks are immune.
The Crimson Curse and Corruption expand their reach to three tiles maximum. Most other blocks are unsusceptible, with exceptions (Pearlstone, which has an affinity for Hallow but not Crimson).
How We Cured It
Our group encountered the curse when a rogue Infected character infected a normal hero. We swiftly contained their interactions, preventing further spread. Since we had an excess cured hero, we intentionally placed Cured and Infected together. Thereafter, we made sure never to leave the two characters on the same floor in a run, effectively halting the spread indefinitely.
Conclusion
Curing Crimson Curse is contingent on the elimination of Courtyard and End Bosses, along with strategically quarantining affected characters as you progress through the game. For the unprepared, disaster can strike. By following the above guideline and knowing the spread mechanics, you’ve got a fighting chance against this devious curse.
