The Origin of the Orcs

According to Tolkien’s Middle-earth, Orcs are the direct descendants of elves who were corrupted by Melkor, the primary antagonist of The Silmarillion, The One Word War cycle. As a result of this corruption, the elf-lord Morgoth convinced the elves to serve him, eventually leading to a war against the Valar, or angelic gods. Morgoth’s war efforts resulted in the curse of darkness and the severing of the elves from their divine connection.

As the story progresses, those elves who refused to ally with Morgoth were changed into the Orcs through Morgoth’s dark power. Over time, this process would continue, solidifying the Orcs as a distinct and separate kind from the elves. Ultimately, this transformation would mark the beginning of the era of conflict between the armies of darkness and the light.

Malacath, the Orc-Father, The Great Chief

In the center of this spiritual landscape sits Malacath, commonly referred to as the Orc-Father or The Great Chief. Malacath is both the original elf-lord and the Daedra Prince, Boethiah, consumed by Morgoth’s power. This cursed union created the Orc kind, bound to serve Boethiah and ultimately influenced by the will of Malacath.

As depicted in the book The True Nature of Orcs, Orcs were literally born from the earth under Morgoth’s sorcerous guidance. This idea is rooted in the thought process of the ancient Greeks and the notion of the power of the earth giving life to living beings.
