Are all Ex Cards Holographic?
As a Pokémon Trainer, you’re likely well-versed in the Pokémon Trading Card Game and familiar with the different types of cards that can be found within it. One of the most notable and sought-after types of cards is the Ex Card, which grants powerful and unique abilities to the Pokémon it’s played with. But one burning question often arises among Ex Card collectors and enthusiasts alike: Are all Ex cards holographic?
In reality, the answer is "no", not all Ex cards are holographic. While most Ex cards can be holographic, with some having a foil-only version instead, there exist certain cases where Ex cards are not holographic, as we’ll explore throughout this article. Are your hopes of a holographic rainbow dashed, though? Certainly not!
Full-Texted Holographics
In the Pokémon world, most Ex cards – and to a lesser degree, Pokémon-GX, Pokémon-SV, or Pokémon-Z cards – that are at Rare or rare card in grade boast remarkable appearances. Notably, each card exhibits a unique textured, raised design on an otherwise shiny surface, while some come with inverse hologram designs showcasing a foiled illustration covering the art, fully holographic versions bearing striking resemblance throughout; only rarely, does an Ex come without an holographic layer.

Moreover, since 2012, new Pokémon-IDS, from the very few Ex Pokémon-GX as well (in TAG TEAM SETS) come with specific Special FX capabilities, giving gamers more diversity and opportunities like Trainer Card Reworkings for strategy, whereas others (just as special) offer extra powers! Some even create a super rare set without rare symbols called special effect "Reverse Reverse Holo Pokémon" set. For every Pokémon collector, a shiny or foiled Ex for the top tier!

Foil, Double Rare or Rare- Full Art/Full-Set Ex: The Top Spot
If you’ve witnessed an ultra-rare gem like Lapras or Mewtwo, perhaps it means that a truly rare piece has crossed under your very eyes!
