Loss and Fragmentation of Forest Habitat: Deforestation and land conversion are causing rapid loss and fragmentation of suitable owl habitats, resulting in a decline of upland owl populations and changes to forest structure, reducing hiding and hunting places. Land-use changes also cause landscape disruption, further contributing to habitat loss.
