Can 2 people have an island on Animal Crossing?
Are you wondering if it’s possible to create multiple islands or share an existing one with someone else in the ever-popular Animal Crossing series?
The Answer
One of the most significant features of Animal Crossing: New Horizons that sets it apart from its predecessors is the ability to have multiple players share islands. According to Nintendo Switch’s policy, each purchased copy of the game allows you to enjoy the game with your own in-game island, separate from any potential shared island with another player(s).
Can you share an Island?
If you and your friends co-own a Nintendo Switch device, you can absolutely share an island! Unfortunately, Animal Crossing doesn’t lend itself well to simultaneous island enjoyment. When two players use the same Joy-Con controller or a shared Single Joy-Con, only one Island can be controlled at a time (unless you’re using Labo Variety Kit, like the Vehicle Kit)!
How Many Islands per Consoles?
As a key point to understand, Animal Crossing, like all Switch games, conserves system storage and resources within each Nintendo Switch console. Per console, there is just one island, no matter whether you own multiple copies of Animal Crossing or purchase digital and hardware copies of the game. In conclusion, each Switch console equates to a single in-game island experience, unless we’re exploring shared play within the limits of Cloud Saves, a feature Nintendo introduced for multiplayer support (*more on that below)!
Key Highlights
• Each island is bound to the specific console ID, linked to your Nintendo
Switch user ID (registered
with the system) when installed.
• Players can share Joy-Con controllers from the same
Switch console for play, without a shared isle issue, so 2 or 3 people can
share and still have control
• As an endnote on multiplayer in any Animal Crossing title,
local coop play in general *could be made
optional since the introduction of multiplayer cloud saves. Keep this
difference in mind! In fact, sharing
multiple animals, friends, or a complete island on your shared ‘cloud’ could be the option you’ll love, right? You could still split your island(s) as is, or let other
pals from online gaming community join or take
turns on that cloud. We all win (or save space for you)*!
Let me walk you through all of the different island
