Can I Play Original God of War on PS5?
In 2018, Sony Interactive Entertainment released the God of War series, which marked the series’ reboot and shift in tone from hack-and-slash action-adventure game to a narrative-driven and more character-focused game. Recently, many PlayStation users wondered if they can play the original God of War game on the new console PlayStation 5. After looking into it, this is what we’ve discovered: yes, but not exactly as expected.
Playing Classic PS2 Games
Original games from the first two parts of the series – God of War (2005) and God of War II (2007) – will be playable on PS5 because they were re-released as part of PlayStation Studios’ efforts to deliver greater backwards compatibility on new gaming consoles. When asked at the PS5 Future of Gaming event in August 2020, it was confirmed by Insomniac Games’ Creative Director, Brian Horton, that the first game can be played and said that it has "**almost no compromises at all***.
Digital Only vs. Physical Disc Compatibility
The compatibility includes the re-released classic PlayStation titles, including Gone Home, Katharine, Cries of Man (Final Fantasy X and I], Jallin, and other non-virtual PS1 PS. The PlayStation Studios didn’t release a dedicated retro app for these PS, rather, these classics remain standalone games accessible in various packages, like God of War 4 in Battle Royale, Kriss, Game Dev Hell, Starhawk*.
Additional Note, PS4 Digital Releases as PS5 Copies will Stay Compatible
Sony officially reported that digital game store files for the older-generation system will not work once its console stops support updates when the time it receives official support, we anticipate new updates on backwards capability enhancements. So don’t delete your older versions without getting a replacement PS (Digital) in addition or replace your original (ps in case it needs software with the newer Software package for both in ps4 PS or its subsequent PS 3 generations 4)!
