Can Mobs See You When You Use Invisibility Potion?
The Invisibility Potion has always been a popular feature in Minecraft, allowing players to sneak past mobs unnoticed and gain an advantage. But, the question of whether mobs can still sense a player’s presence under the effects of the invisibility potion has sparked interesting discussions among the Minecraft community.
In this article, we will delve into the latest findings and research on Minecraft’s mobs and their sense of awareness when a player uses an invisibility potion.
Can Mobs Sense Your Presence?
While the Invisibility Potion gives the player a temporary 30-second cloak of, well, invisibility, the game’s mobs won’t completely lose their senses entirely. According to Minecraft legend, mobs have a restricted field of vision, commonly known as their "search area." Within this 20-block radius, certain mobs will still be vigilant for any movement or detect your presence, even though they can’t see the player directly.
Technical Analysis
Here’s where the technical side of this gets interesting. Minecraft updates 1.14 or higher introduced the concept of a "sound detection delay," which means that as soon as a player approaches or makes noise within range of a mob, that mob will become focused on the player once again. This means:
• Blind sight is no longer entirely applicable. Even with visibility turned off, mobs know to be vigilant for 15 seconds before resighting (assuming they didn’t receive damage during this pause).
Which Mobs are Affected?
To answer the question that keeps you up at nights:
• Zombie-like mobs (Like Skeletons, Zombies and other undead creatures): Still affected by distance from the player. For now, you’re best staying at least 19-20 blocks away within this radius to avoid mob attention.
• Ogres (Blues): Affected the least, with their strong eyesight allowing them a bit more visibility (excuse the pun). Take them out first if going after them with invis – keep in mind, Ogre Vision Range is around ~17 blocks.
• Most Worrior mobs (Sarlers, Ravages): Less affected but not entirely blind. Those snouts still detect when they’re within range while moving, making it key to keep them distracted long enough for complete detection delay to set in once.
• Elders (Mundra and the Warden of Ender): Best suited for complete stealth runs or, better yet, build around these mobs!
How to Remain Safe
When playing safely is a must:
A quick recap: while still on the radar, Mobs will lose interest rapidly over time (sound based).
- Stealth: Be mindful if there’s any noise to create. Invis goes, and your safety expires (temporarily).
In the end, maintaining proper distance and being less reckless while under the effectiveness of the invisibility
potion can greatly, not completely, mitigate noise
and sound detections that would reveal your place
