Can Undead Get Lycanthropy?
When it comes to the mysterious and supernatural, the possibilities are endless. In the world of fantasy and myth, lycanthropy is a curse that affects humans, allowing them to transform into wolves. But what about the undead? Can they, too, be infected with this mysterious affliction?
An Undead Can’t Turn into a Lycanthrope
According to the game, Fallout: New Vegas and other similar games, an undead creature cannot turn into a werewolf because they already have the undead type. This type does not satisfy the conditions required for becoming a werewolf. Furthermore, if an undead werewolf exists, it wouldn’t have a human or giant type, which is necessary for lycanthropy.
Exception: Serana in Skyrim
But what about the game Skyrim? Serana, an ancient vampire, can undergo a transformation process to shed her vampirism through a ritual. This doesn’t make her a lycanthrope. Instead, she becomes free from the curse of vampirism.
Unlikely: Jacob’s Reaction
Another exception is revealed in a game called the Elder Scrolls, where an NPC named Jacob states, "I’m not turned into a vampire, if I’m bit by Serana… unless I am already infected by the Sun." In other words, if a lycanthrope or a shapeshifter (like Werewolf) bites an undead, it might lead to new transformations or conditions, though this remains unconfirmed as of yet.
General Rule
So, following the rule that undead aren’t able to become werewolves because they can’t transform back into living beings (in most RPGs) an undead** cannot catch lycanthropy by being bitten by a Werewolf. It’s almost as if there’s some sort of curse or fate that blocks these transformations!
