Did Thanos lift Deadpool’s curse?
The Merc with a Mouth, Deadpool, has faced many formidable foes in the Marvel universe. One such opponent is Thanos, the Mad Titan who would stop at nothing to rid the universe of half its inhabitants. But what we want to know is did Thanos lift Deadpool’s curse?
The origins of the curse
The curse was the result of Thanos using the Soul Stone to transform Deadpool’s immortality curse. Deadpool’s regenerative abilities allowed him to recover from injuries and illnesses that would be fatal to other superheroes. This led to Death, personified as an entity in the Marvel Multiverse, taking an interest in him. Thanos, determined to rid himself of Deadpool, used the Soul Stone to manipulate death itself and created a never-ending cycle of death, which also meant immortality.
Thanos lifted the curse
According to Marvel’s comics, Deadpool: Funeral For A Freak (volume 1, #64), Thanos did lift the curse off Deadpool. Thanos realized that he couldn’t control death itself and that life was what was truly his greatest threat. With the help of the Life Stone, he broke free from his own destiny to kill everything. In effect, he lifted his own curse and transformed himself back into his prime.
But why do this?
Dr. Strange’s influence may have played a role. During his adventures as a hero, Dr. Strange might have taught him about the concept of Time. With the Life Stone’s help, Thanos realized that he too could defy fate just like Dr. Strange defied time itself. For the first time, Thanos gained control over his own destiny. With the Life Stone, he became more mindful of the consequences of killing, especially the life-altering ones. He knew that Death itself would prevent him from being a free agent in the universe
