Do video game designers work inside or outside?
In an age where virtual worlds have become a major part of our lives, video game design has emerged as a rapidly growing and exciting industry. The success of the industry can be attributed to the innovative work of talented designers who conceptualize and develop games that captivate and entertain players worldwide.
But have you ever wondered, where do these talented individuals actually work? Do video game designers work inside or outside, or do they split their time between the two environments?
The majority work indoors
To answer these questions, it’s crucial to understand that video game design is an industry-driven field, meaning that it largely operates indoors. As you would expect, developers and publishers rely heavily on well-equipped and controlled interior environments to facilitate the process of game design.
On the surface, it appears that more than half of game designers typically work inside dedicated studios and offices. In these well-lit, organized, and highly technological areas, designers focus on scripting, character creation, mission development, level design, and many other essential steps necessary to craft a riveting game. This enables them to immerse themselves in their work and fully dedicate themselves to creating a game that is both enjoyable and visually appealing.
Location
As far as geographical location is concerned, video game designers often operate within specialized gaming hubs and regions like Los Angeles, Seattle, or San Francisco (California, USA). Although many companies choose to centralize their workspaces close to clients or consumers, it is also feasible to find successful studios dispersed globally.
