Does Spider-Man support RTX?

A question that has been swirling around the minds of NVIDIA fans and gamers alike since the release of Spider-Man Remastered. As many of you may know, the game’s developers has made it clear that Nvidia’s RTX technology won’t be a core selling point for the game on PC. But, did they really mean that?! Let’s dive deeper.

What does Spiderman Remastered’s official statements say?

In our previous article, we talked about the official statement on the game’s Steam forum page, which read "RTX is one of the tech features NVIDIA provides, but we believe the game should run pretty well on many NVIDIA-powered systems." At a glance, this seems inconclusive, right? Perhaps the developers meant to express that the game is intended to run well on average NVIDIA-powered systems, whether they have RTX-capable GPUs or not?!

What are the Hardware Requirements for Spider-Man Remastered?

So, for those who might be eyeing the game but wants to know whether it "runs well on 4K 60HZ", or perhaps wishes to know what sort of GPU is needed to do so, let’s revisit the game’s system requirement specs:

  • GPU:Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 6 GB / AMD Radeon RX 580
  • OS: Windows 10 (64-bit)
  • Storage: 75GB SSD

With this specifications in mind, running the game on 1080p seems not only possible but quite more likely. Meanwhile, higher resolutions like 1440p and 4k would require RTX-capable GPUs, hence, the confusion. How do we square the idea of RTX supporting from the developers, considering even a GTX 1060 6 GB wouldn’t cut it?

Evidence Suggesting Spider-man Remastered does support RTX

So, our first piece of evidence appears in the official presskit provided by Insomniac Games :

  • NVIDIA‘s Ray Tracing Technology (RTX-enabled GPUs) enables:
    o Ray tracing
  • NVIDIA AI-powered Deep Learning-Accelerated Anti-aliasing (DAA)
  • Shadowmap – Optimizer
  • Motion Blur

Focusing on these, an RTX-capable device should be more than eligible to run Spiderman properly, especially if considering what’s required to support real-time ray tracing!

It seems that while Insomniac didn’t shout from the rooftops about RTX, what we have now are quite a few points in that direction. There isn’t much more convincing to push this point. However if we look back to my previous article, Spider-Mans Remastered doesn use RTX as core to the game. This really is a small matter regarding what the devs were willing to say at that times.

A Question of Performance, then

So what exactly goes into making Spiderman run at full capacity? Some folks had expressed concerns regarding frame ratting, performance and possibly, even frame stutter?

Well, our evidence clearly points towards an emphasis by the developers to push visuals through RTX features.
1440P and higher, without doubt, are quite specific about the type of gaming hardware needed.

Given above facts, this doesnt necessarily suggest it ‘supports’ but this implies that if one already owns an RTX or is planning on investing will benefit from an upgraded image quality.

If only one was a clear indicator of Spider-Man games, then one wouldn` t be considering Spider–Man Remastered right there!
