How to Free Mimic Aldia’s Keep?

Aldia’s Keep is a mysterious location in Dark Souls 2, filled with puzzles, secrets, and a fierce skeletal dragon guarding the keys to the main corridor. To free Mimic and access the entire area, you’ll need to go through a few steps, which we’ll outline in this article. No, you don’t need any DLCs! The answers provided are applicable to the vanilla game version.

Step 1: Obtaining the Key

First, you need to ignite the four stone torches in the area. Once lit, the dragon awakens and drops the key to the locked room containing the key to the corridor.

Torch Number Location
1 Northwest corner
2 South of the entrance
3 West wing, opposite the entrance
4 Inside the bone dragon’s resting place

Step 2: Lit all torches and Activate the Dragon

After igniting all torches, the bone dragon comes to life and grants you access to the area. Here’s a more detailed outline of the procedure:

Torch Number Action to Perform
1 Light Torch 1, and wait for invader spawn, then relight
2 Light Torch 2
3 Light Torch 3
4 Light Torch 4
ALL Wait until the dragons wake up
DRAGON You’ll gain the key upon defeating

Step 3: Access the Area

You’ve now lit all four torches and awakened the dragon. Using the gained key, explore the new corridor and confront the prisoned Mimic. Open the door in the south part of the corridor for the first cage, follow the path straight ahead (and left turns) up to the cage with your key. Break the caggage then step by this path and come back towards the entrance as you continue up to step by you’re in to the open room.

There you should see a little room you haven’t looked at from before. Just enter. Then you walk up (right turn right after 1st gate) along a long stone path while fighting some things. Turn right, following the next right, another right.

After you, you arrive at a corridor with one gate and at the north. There we are already there. As you entered this corridor step by turn towards you and stop. Follow that path into the left (the opposite direction than before). Once you return, the whole area would be open!
