How Does Pearl of Power Work?
The Pearl of Power is a magical item in 5th Edition Dungeons & Dragons that allows a spellcaster to regain a spell slot of 3rd level or lower once per dawn. But how exactly does it work? Let’s dive in and find out.
Using the Pearl of Power
The Pearl of Power is simple to use: speak its command word, a standard action. The speaker of the spell slots available to the Pearl’s controller. If no spell slot is available for recovery, the Pearl becomes non-usable until dawn the following day.

Multiclassing with the Pearl of Power
In campaigns where multiclassing exists, the Pearl’s regaining mechanism still functions under the following constraints:
- Calculate spellcasting ability: Only spell slots available to your multiclass spellcasting system (using the spell slot rules detailed in the Monster Manual page 125 or in PHB 217-222) are subject to recuperation.
- Regain 3rd-level slots at 4th level and lower : Multiclassing combinations will regain available slots depending on the composite class; the highest total level cannot be regained through the Pearl.
- If you don’t meet class level requirements for certain 3rd level spells :: Those **slots with 4th-level minimum level requirement don’t function with the Pearl. When regaining lost spells, consider using abilities and resourceful actions described in Player’s Handbook on pages 222-230 or Player’s Handbook p.250.
Special Rules Concerning Multiple Pearl of Powers
Multiple pearls, of the same and different commanding words, share similar actions, although no limits exist as it seems. Use any free action to utilize these multitudes, subjecting slots available at their separate classes**, ensuring consistency:
- Use of only one pearl might create conflicting spellcasting resources.
Multiple Pearl of Power and pearl-like abilities become intertwined complexities; in each individual interaction, only regaining capacities specific to unique pell-like, in multiclass situations are governed only by spell-slot restoration limits, with these being utilized separately from unique magical artifact. The ‘no more limits’ exception has resulted in confusion – clarification to ensure **single free usage of any Pearls by spellcaster or others not allowed. Any misuse due to misusing power’s action could, ultimately resolve into conflicts concerning classes when trying to perform another unique magical item/ artifact recovery, possibly to restore some sort of slots – see table above). A good practice to resolve multiple problems could be considering one’s available capacities based primarily on one primary or default magical source within classes which, at such stage we know as most easily predictable source.
