Is Rhyhorn Worth Catching?
Rhyhorn is an underwater powerhouse from Generation II, and it has gotten a lot of attention due to its shiny form making it easy to spot while it’s on the floor. But is it actually worth catching? In this article, we’ll provide you with all the key information you need to help you decide whether Rhyhorn is worth adding to your team.
Main Points:
- Is Rhyhorn worth collecting for its shiny form only?
- Is Rhyperior, its final evolvement, worth bothering with?
- How will Rhyhorn perform against opposing forces
So Let’s Get Started!
1. Is Rhyhorn worth collecting for its shiny form only?
On the surface, Rhyhorn’s shiny form has been a significant draw factor. Unlike some other Pokedex entries, Rhyhorn’s shiny form turns its armor plating in bright yellow, making it an easy target to collect. However, there must be more to it for a Pokémon to be of worth. We’ll assess this further below.
Rhyhorn’s Primary Statistics
| Stat | Rhyhorn – Normal | Rhydon – Normal | Rhydon – Shiny Norma |
|---|---|---|---|
| HP | 60 | 75 | |
| Attack | 130 | 90 | |
| Defense | 120 | 90 | 120 |
| Special Attack | 5 | 5 | 5 |
| Special Defense | 50 | 30 | 40 |
| Speed | 40 | 30 | 50 |
(Note the comparison, this represents general data, but Rhyperior’s stats will impact your decision.)
Raw Power:
Rhyhorn’s stats show no exceptional strength, with ordinary numbers across the board; it’s not particularly intimidating on paper. However, we must consider its typing, moveset, and evolution to better understand.
2. Is Rhyperior worth bothering with?
Rhydon, Rhyhorn’s final evolution, is available at level 42 in Pokémon Go. It would be a shame to power up Rhyhorn at level 30 and, after a long grind for candy, not get all that much in return once you reach Rhyhorn. So, is there any point in evolving a Rhyhorn?
Rhyperior’s Ability
By leveling up Rhydon with an Eviolite, you can give its defense a significant boost through its ability, **Drill Run**. You’ll need to balance any gains with the candy expenditures for the grind.
Rhydon’s Stats
Rhydon’s stats can be seen in the summary above. Compared to wild Rhyhorn, and its shiny counterpart, your evolved Rhydon only gets a small boost:
- HP: +75 > 60
- Defense: +90 > +120
- Special Attack: 5 >
- Special Defense: -30 > -50 + < 40
- Attack: -40 > (unchanged)
- Speed: -10 > or the same
Ryperior’s stats don’t change much from Rhyperior, which is only 15 points higher!
For an investment of candy you need to make, should you bother with Rperior? In our consideration, it seems that all these stats aren’t giving us much in return regarding power.
3. How will Rhyhorn perform against opposing forces:
Rhyhorn stands as a Rock-type beast with a mediocre moveset, which doesn’t put it in the best positioning. It can learn three moves: Rock Bite, Earthquake and Rock Blast
Rock Bite: Super Effective against Flying, a few Bug, and more
Earthquake : Super Effective against no type, but hits any type
Rock Blast: Super Effective against Electric, Flying, and Ghost, but not very Powerfull
