Is There an End to Genshin?
In the vast open world of Genshin Impact, players have been wondering whether there’s a definitive endpoint to the game. Does the story wrap up nicely, or are there continuous updates and expansion packs adding new content forever? We’ll delve into the heart of the question and uncover the truth behind the boundaries of Genshin’s world.
The Reality of the Never-Ending Story
At its core, Genshin Impact is an on-going storyline with continuous updates and chapters. miHoYo, the developers of the game, have no intention of stopping the content creation at any specific point. According to a dev blog from 2021, miHoYo states that:
"As a never-ending and ever-growing narrative, there is no concept of an ‘ending’ in the classical sense, but instead, an continuous evolution towards new story chapters and narrative developments." https://gohindi-impact.dev/t/2003/entry/1453
This indicates that the journey of Genshin is an endless river, and players will constantly be given new paths to explore.
But what about main storylines?
When focusing on the main storyline, some end points are created, known as Archaic Peaks, like the convergence of Pity and Resin rewards (see figure 1 for a graphic representation).

Keep in mind that the entire story is evolving, constantly branching off with new quest lines, events, and adventures. In theory, some main story threads might tie up with individual character development, while the overall story landscape remains open for exploration. Think of it as waves of growth, as explained by game director, Soyee Yu:
" "The development of our stories is compared to a gradual process like drawing a line from the periphery of an ever-broadening paper. When we feel a story ‘ends,’ the line grows and widens, new branches emerging on the outer edges of this paper as new tales await". Genshin Impact Developers at PAX East 2022: ‘There will be stories that start new chapters from existing stories’.
