The gaming industry is constantly evolving, and modern games have shifted significantly over the past few decades, with a majority of developers opting for digital-only AAA releases. However, alongside the advancement of digital entertainment, some gamers still insist on physical media. Games that fall outside of these digital and non-digital categories exist in a form that lies in between-the-analogue era classics and digital new-age innovation. Here’s an elaborate exploration of the different approaches to digital games, while highlighting board games and card games as a new frontier of gaming.
Introduction
Traditional offline games involve manual components – cards, dice, tables, etc., allowing gaming enthusiasts to create immersive play experiences away from their desks. There is, ultimately, nothing ‘not real’ or uncool here. Whether or not modern gamers engage in analog strategy, chess-like logic play, physical or emotional competition, each individual form of ‘off the-grid’ fun holds merit its own world, without much need to explore.
