What Happens if You Raid a Pillager Outpost?
Pillager outposts are fortified structures generated by Illagers, hostile mobs in the game of Minecraft. Each outpost has a unique location, consisting of a raised platform surrounded by a shallow moat and a protective wall made of wood, stone, or netherrack. When interacting with these outposts, players are met with either excitement or frustration, but what actually happens when a player decides to raid an outpost?
The Lure of the Outpost
For many players, the Pillager outpost appears as an intriguing challenge: a symbol of adventure, exploration, and possibly – a means to acquire resources and better equipment. Here are the primary reasons a player may decide to visit an outpost:
- Seeking resources and loot
- Exploring a new landscape
- Completing survival challenges
Confronting the Pillagers
When you approach an active Pillager outpost, two things may happen:
1. Encounter with Ilagers and Vindicators
On easy and normal difficulty levels, you have a 65% to 80% chance to encounter either Vindicators or Illagers.[1] Vindicators are Pillagers with powerful bows and are more interested in trading, while Pillagers will engage in ranged combat with the player using their Crossbows. Fighting these enemies requires strategy, as they are well armed and hostile.
Battle Strategies for Vindicators and Illagers
- Avoid Vindicators with powerful bows, aim for weak points
- Vindicators typically spawn 1-5 blocks away from the outbreak
- Use iron armor for maximum protection vs. pillagers
- Don’t underestimate Crossbow range
Kill the Captain for the Frenzy
The outcome of an outpost raid does not necessarily end with battles. Defeating the Commander of the outpost will automatically trigger the Frenzy Mode, which transforms the nearby environment. These changes affect both the loot and spawn patterns:
<| * 65.00 % of Pillager spawns (0-24) || Pillager Camps Spawning
60.00 % of additional Pillagers Spawning

Before deciding to kill the Capitol, take into account other factors affecting your gameplay like the need for resources: Don’t kill until you know the outcome
| Raid Outpost Frenzy
No Pillager spawns (reduced threat)
no additional spawning of pilligers
When deciding whether it’s time to start this thrilling battle:
