Introduction

Warlocks are incredibly powerful spellcasters due to their connection to celestial or fiendish energies. Their patron is often depicted as a powerful force, granting them access to unique abilities and spells in exchange for their loyalty, sacrifices, or other payment. However, what happens to a warlock’s patron dies? Does it automatically mean the end for the warlock as a caster? Let’s investigate the possibilities.

Divided Loyalties

What if a warlock finds out that their patron no longer exists or has intentionally cut ties with them? How does this affect the warlock’s abilities?

• Loss of Loyalty: The warlock is no longer bound by the terms of their allegiance. They are free from their patron’s influence.
• Loss of Abundance: The warlock can no longer access power and abilities granted by the patron.
• Retraction of Spells: Magic spells granted directly from the patron may require an adjustment or a redo in the warlock. Warlocks may need new channels or sources of connection for their spells.

Consequently, the warlock’s abilities and spells are severly impacted. Note: This does not mean the warlock is entirely free; they may still continue with their patron’s abilities due to the inherent corruption inherent in their patron-pawn relationship.

• New Patron: For the warlock to rebuild or maintain their magical energy, they may seek and create a new patron arrangement with another entity. But does this mean the process can be repeated? Has their loyalty been tainted (a.k.a. become permanently corrupted)?
