Evasion in D&D: A Brief Overview
Evasion is an optional ability in the Dungeons and Dragons Players Handbook (PH), starting at 11th level for monks, or with the Drunken Master subclass from Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything starting at 3rd level.
When a monk’s Evasion comes into play, the PC has the ability to reroll a saving throw when reduced below maximum health (due to half damage from attacks, such as taking area of effect damage), instead of the usual 10 feet of the attacked or harmed. This doesn’t absolve responsibility of combat maneuvers, where positioning or actions matter significantly, so make sure you always plan accordingly.
In contrast to other abilities in Evasion, its rules specifically indicate it to start working when a target gains more reduction through area damage on rolls below 1 dexterity save, with respect from non-magic effect sources.
