What Level Does Chromie Time Scale To?
World of Warcraft’s latest patch, Dragonflight, has introduced a significant addition to the game: Chromie Time. This new feature allows players to relive memories by scaling the game to older expansions and levels, all with just the flip of a switch. But how high can you level in Chromie Time, and what does it scale up to? Let’s find out!
The Current State of Chromie Time
Before we dive into the nitty-gritty details, it’s important to note that Chromie Time doesn’t apply to WoW’s leveling progress. What this means is that while you can travel back in time and re-experience older expansions at a higher level, you won’t be gaining the same kind of level increase as you would normally progressing through the game. Additionally, your character will continue to gain experience points just the same way you did normally, without any Chromie Time involvement.
Level Scaling for Chromie Time
In Dragonflight, you can now level your character up to level 60 using Chromie Time. This is a significant bump from the previous maximum leveling cap of level 50, which has given players even more options to explore older expansions.
To put this into perspective:
- Level 40-50: Chromie Time scales up to 55 to let players easily join and progress through high-end raid and dungeon content for the latest expansions.
With Chromie Time, players can revisit areas from past expansions like Wrath of the Lich King (Wrath of the Lich King), Cataclysm, and War of the Thorns. At level 40, you’ll be scaled down to around level 30 in Wrath and Northrend raids for seamless playing experience. At level 50, you can scale down to level 30 for vanilla raids like Molten Core and Blackwing Lair (BWL).
- Level 50-55: You can start getting into mid-level dungeons of the old expansions with scale-down scaling.
Some things to note:
Some dungeons have limitations because of design changes to reduce difficulty.
Instances’ drop rates or crafting recipes remain the same across all instances.
Players above level 60, like with the weekly Chest, still need minimum level requirements (mostly 65) to avoid issues in some newer parts of the game (ex: M+ etc..).
Here’s a snapshot of Chromie Time’s scaling rules:
| Level Range | Chromie Time Scale-To Level | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 10-49 | 50-60 | Scale-up scale-downs |
| 40-50 | 55 | Scale-up scales down |
Will it be worth it?
If you’ve stuck with the game from level 30, Chromie Time has been great but it depends on whether level 30 is ‘normal’ content for the zones you’ve played and visited. Additionally, older contents’ scaling can go wrong if not perfectly coordinated by the player due to older or newer patch levels causing slight game quirks as older data is referenced. Make sense? Keep in mind each zone in older expansion instances has limitations in which one can interact with (other players / NPCs etc); it’ll be your 1.5 levels off from max level – at 45-46 as 70.
Lastly – Newer Raids and Content with scaled-down experience for low-tier players aren’t exactly ready for it, for balance reasons or for certain item needs / difficulty challenges we get from having more high leveled players mixed in those scaled-down places. However when you’ve reached this experience, some raids you participate in you will scale accordingly.
There you have it! In World of Warcraft: Dragonflight‘s Chromie Time, players can level up to Level 60, allowing them to revisit and experience older content in new ways. Always remember, Chromie Time won’t affect your character’s ‘normal’ leveling progress – it’s just an in-game ‘time capsule’.
