What Weapons are Skeletons Proficient With?
When it comes to Dungeons and Dragons, skeletons are often seen as one-dimensional entities, only capable of rattling their bones and spewing forth arrows or javelins. But did you know that there is more to these creatures than meets the eye? Yes, skeletons are actually proficient with a range of weapons, and it’s important to understand which ones to expect.
Rusty Old Bows
When it comes to the realm of ranged combat, skeletons are most well-known for their use of old and worn-out bows. These bows are said to be made from bones themselves, and are only viable for a skeleton with little to no actual power in their arms. For some reason, the DM of your campaign might say this, but the end result is the same – an undead creature shooting old-fashioned arrows at its prey.
Javhelms
While these ranged weapons are less of an effective tool for the living, they are surprisingly relevant when wielded by skeletal remains. A good Skeleton is capable of looting fallen javelins, not just bows; that means that any decent skirmish can potentially unfold where a skeleton gets caught wielding an arrow-laying hammer, the very horror at which our imaginations grow cold. These items belong to the group as of yet unlisted yet for a reason – each bone can have up the next to be picked! Not a bad reason or else.
