Where is the next Worlds 2023?
The esports community has been buzzing with anticipation as the next installment of the most prestigious LoL tournament approaches. In 2022, Worlds had a split format across Mexico and the United States. As we edge closer to 2023, many are wondering – Where will Worlds be held in 2023?
Location: South Korea
To answer that, we’ll have to head back to the region of origin of League of Legends – South Korea. In 2014 and 2018, South Korea hosted Worlds previously, and it appears the trend continues. As part of their efforts to elevate the League of Legends Global Championship to new heights, Riot Games has officially confirmed that the 2023 Worlds tournament will take place in South Korea.
Format
Compared to previous years, Worlds’ format underwent major changes for 2022. Fans can expect these changes to continue or might even expand in the coming year. Here are the key formats to watch out for:
• 22 teams: The top performers from regional circuits around the world have earned an automatic spot.
• 3 stages:
- Play-In Stage
- Swiss Stage ( Ranking 1 – 8 and Knockout )
- Knockout Stage
Each match win adds 2 tournament points for the first game, increasing to 6 points by the semifinal. Keep an eye out for adjustments to stage win requirements.
