Who Kills Poseidon? Unveiling the Truth from Greek Mythology
The legend of Poseidon, the Greek god of the sea, is shrouded in mystery and excitement. While the god himself has a multitude of responsibilities and accomplishments, his endgame remains an enigmatic one. Many have searched far and wide, peeling away the layers of myths and legends to uncover the identity of the god who dareth take his life.
In Greek mythology, Poseidon has had numerous encounters that nearly ended in his downfall, but did he meet his match at the hands of Kratos, God of War?
Did Kratos Kill Poseidon?
One of the most notable encounters between the god of war and Poseidon takes place in God of War III, an epic tale of brotherly betrayal. Kratos, driven by his eternal hunger for vengeance, brutally confronts the King of the Seas in a mortal fight. Poseidon attempts to break free from the chains that bind him but fails to overcome the furious fury of Kratos.
The scene is set like this: Kratos strangles Poseidon with the golden trident’s handles until the gods breathe their final breath.
Kratos squeezes with merciless ferocity, until, finally, Poseidon is left for dead
What can we infer from this graphic, gruesome death scene? Has Kratos really ended Poseidon’s immortal life, or have both their destinies been set for them from the heavens? As the battle begins to rage, it may take us closer to our inquiry. Are there signs from ancient sources that a lesser god took the high-sea sailor god as it should?
