Why did Urza Betray Dominaria?

Urza, a powerful and beloved Planeswalker, is renowned for his grandeur and legendary exploits in the world of Magic: The Gathering. Yet, his betrayal of Dominaria, his home plane, remains a source of controversy and confusion. In this article, we will delve into the complex web of motivations and events that led to Urza’s abandonment of Dominaria and his descent into the realm of treachery.

Background and Personality

Urza’s tumultuous relationship with his brother, Mishra, was a crucial factor in his decision. Born with a spark within him, Urza demonstrated a natural aptitude for magic since a tender age. This distinction fueled jealousy and resentment from his brother, causing a rift in their once-siblingly relationship.

As both brothers grew older, they began to share a mutual disdain and distrust toward one another, resulting in a lifelong adversarial connection. Mishra’s hatred and betrayal ultimately drove a wedge between the brothers, leaving room for suspicion and resentment.

Urza’s Grievances against Mishra

Urza accused Mishra of stealing his own magical techniques and claiming them as his own, solidifying the rift between the once-inseparable siblings. To further justify his betrayal, Urza took offense at his brother’s close involvement with the Phyrexians (an artificial world inhabited by hybrid creatures, both magic and machinery merged).

This suspicion fueled the flames of anger within Urza, blowing a furnace of resentment deep within. Mishra’s close relation with the Phyrexians angered Urza as a possible betrayal that might see the Phyrexians spread their machinations across his own dominion, Dominaria.

Harbin: a Possible False Claim?

Many have surmised that Urza abandoned Dominaria to unite with Kayla bin-Kroog (a planeswalker with telepathic abilities). Urza raised Harbin (or Tatar, as he claimed), another Planeswalker in whom some believed he deposited a suspicious part of his Planeswalker essence, rendering questions about his paternity and even Harbin’s being Urza’s son or at least part of his being difficult to explain.

This alleged abandonment sparked fierce debates and mistrust amongst the Planeswalker Community. Did Harbin indeed truly share ties with Urza? In light of current revelations concerns of treachery within are rising still.

Conclusion of Events on Dominaria

Meanwhile, as turmoil spread across Tolaria (and even led a portion of it down), on Dominaria too Karn took place within various realms and moments before joining Talarian Empire, while facing time within a realm during events such as the Invasion. To clarify time changes here made him leave home with memories from another universe (reality), Tolarian events that ultimately had occurred during a few decades time period after The New Phyrexia Invading world, time-rift issues with other Tolaria timeline and so many various places the journey led towards various actions. This and even Urza tried in trying to prevent, after being made to give up an item they wanted and for saving himself also helped but his loss (for personal sacrifice). Even before knowing, and to put away pain for another of us from some places (who will one day, one side with both). Here on Karn was always known, always felt, never the end! For you are still our world friend and you, with these paths shared!
