Will There be Minecraft: Story Mode 2?
Mojang and Telltale have confirmed that Minecraft: Story Mode is complete, meaning that there will be no more seasons produced for the game. As stated by Mojang on its official website, "[this] is the end of the story" with a hint of sadness implying that there won’t be a sequel or further installment to the series.
Minecraft: Story Mode follows Jesse, a young fan who is transported to a virtual world based on Minecraft. The game consists of several episodes, each chapter a new adventure for the character. The story intertwines with the Minecraft experience, allowing players to delve into the world of characters like Alex, Storia, and many more in various scenarios.
Was There a Reason for Concluding the Series?
So, why did they choose to conclude the Story Mode series? Well, after the shutdown of Telltale Games in September 2018 (due to financial instability and a series of challenges) and the acquisition by Microsoft, Mojang stated that they had to wind up the game due to expiring licensing rights.
There were rumors that Disney may have acquired the IP from Telltale games. However, no news came out of it till Warner Bros acquires the rights to it, which might mean in future, there might not be a Minecraft: Story Mode 2, yet but we never know it depends on how the developers at Warner Bros want the project to move forward
Another reason for the concluded series could be that Mojang and Telltale had different storyboards and creative visions compared to the first season. A tweet from Telltale back in 2013 also hinted at a series extension, but that fell apart due to creative discrepancies, which could be where Mojang took over and decided to wrap up the series.
Is There a Better Conclusion?
As opposed to a direct sequel Minecraft: Story Mode, consider how the series ended—Episode 8: ‘Order of the Stone.” You could say that Season 1 had a closure like a well-darned ending, you may not need a Story Mode 2 to appreciate or continue the journey without gaps.
